Lonicera caprifolium

Lonicera caprifolium

Lonicera caprifolium is also known as Italian woodbine and Italian honeysuckle.

It is a twining, woody and deciduous climbing plant. It has grey-green oval leaves, up to 10 cm long. In summer, tubular flowers appear, very fragrant, creamy white to yellow in colour, tinged with pink, followed by orange-red berries. It reaches a height of 6m.

Lonicera caprifolium prefers shade or partial shade, it tolerates cold weather up to -15°C, but it also lives in full sun. It is also widely used for hedges and groves, as a ground cover plant under large trees. Thanks to its persistent foliage it can be used as a ground cover. It is an excellent honey plant too!

Very widespread and appreciated for its ease of cultivation, it requires little care due to the vigour and scent of the funnel-shaped flowers, which fill the air with a sweet fragrance on warm summer evenings.
