Ficus carica

Native to the Mediterranean region, it has been cultivated since ancient times. Its fleshy fruits are edible.

Ficus carica is a small deciduous tree or large shrub growing up to 7–10 m tall, it tolerates moderate seasonal frost and it can be grown even in hot-summer continental climates.

Plants will usually show significant die back in cold winters.

It grows wild in dry and sunny locations with deep and fresh soil. It prefers relatively porous and freely draining soil, and it can grow in nutritionally poor soil.
