Scabiosa Cretica

Scabiosa cretica or Lomelosia cretica is an evergreen perennial Cretan subshrub but can be found even in Sicily  (Italy) and in some mountainous areas of Mallorca (Spain).

The plant can reach a height of 50 cm and a diameter of 40 cm about.

In mediterranean areas, blooming time is in Spring. Flowers are small pink balls good for drying: after blooming the dried flowers are beige color and keep the same shape of fresh flowers, keeping their ornamental feature.

Scabiosa cretica prefers sun, high temperature,  well drained soils and a regular irrigation.

This plant is very used in xeriscaping to create the real Mediterranean maquis.
